White House orders more vaccines
President Biden announced on March 11, 2021, his directive that all states open vaccinations to all adults by May 1, 2021.
The White House previously announced, it had ordered enough doses to vaccinate all American adults by July but on March 2, 2021, the administration updated the deadline to the end of May. Cutting two months from its original deadline.
The White House will send out 13.5 million Covid-19 vaccination doses per week.
The U.S. is already averaging about 2.3 million doses per day on average. This daily average has increased by almost 1 million doses since mid-February.
Commissioner Judy Persichilli of the Department of Health has asked those vaccinated to return to the same site for their second dose. All second doses will be shipped to the same site in which the first dose was received.
Johnson & Johnson vaccinations begin
The new Johnson & Johnson vaccination has increased the potential for residents to be vaccinated. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires one dose to be administered. It does not have to be kept at the lower temperatures that the Pfizer and Modena vaccines must be stored. Thus the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be more mobile. According to Persichilli, “The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be able to be available closer to where individuals live.”
Johnson & Johnson intends to distribute the vaccine to the U.S. government immediately following authorization and expects to supply 100 million doses to the U.S. in the first half of 2021
