A miracle treatment for baldness may have been discovered by researchers
Balding does not have any health effects, but it may be distressing for those who are plagued with it. There are different hair loss remedies, but none that can fully avoid the hair loss.
Many individuals have been attempting to cure a medical disorder that affects millions of individuals around the world, with men mostly affected by it. Balding can be caused by many reasons. Some research shows advanced cancer treatments and some cases of COVID disease can result in hair loss. Baldness may occur in many other people without a strict cause.
Surveys suggest that by the age of 35, two-thirds of American men experience some amount of hair loss. By the age of 50, roughly 85 percent of men will begin to experience hair loss.
New solution to regrow hair
A team in Japan has produced a solution that permits hair growth by using stem cells. Researchers promoted transforming skin cells into cells that can replace hair cells. Hair growth should work this way. Hair loss is normal. Everyone needs to replace the hairs on their head with new hairs every day. RIKEN scientists at the Biosystems Dynamics Research Center released a paper in Nature Scientific Journals outlining their research on stem cells on mammals.
Researching hair growth
They separated the whisker and nerve cells from mice and founded a culture medium using other components. Using 220 different combinations, they found one form of collagen combined with five factors would produce the highest rate of stem cell amplification over the shortest period of time.
The RIKEN researchers clarified that regenerative medicine treatments that lead to hair re-growth should yield hair that can be re-used. That means that after falling out naturally, the hair will regrow.
These researchers mixed bioengineered hair follicle stem cells with the medium NFFSE, as well as one of the ingredients missing from the medium. For three weeks, they observed the regenerated hair and found that the NFFSE medium allowed the hair follicles to go through at least three normal hair development cycles. The other medium was not nearly as successful, with only one hair cycle being generated by 79 percent of follicles.
The researchers also found that hair cycling was favored by a particular marker on the surface of cells cultured in the NFFSE medium. In a quote, author Makoto Takeo said, “We found that almost 80% of follicles reached three hair cycles when Itgβ5 was also bioengineered into the hair follicle germ.” “In comparison, when it was not present, only 13 percent reached three cycles.”
“Takashi Tsuji, the lead author of the study, said, “Our culture system sets up a mechanism for cyclical regeneration of hair follicles from hair follicle stem cells and will help make hair follicle regeneration therapy a reality in the near future.
Clinical trials still needed
It has to undergo clinical trials before this baldness remedy becomes commercially viable. The researchers at RIKEN have so far demonstrated stem cell therapy in preclinical laboratory experiments. Tsuji said that to help develop clinical applications for the new hair growth technology, the institute is looking for outside collaborators.
